How might the Umma be affected by the Sunni/Shia split?

  1. Well the whole point of the umma is to be together under god. A large group of followers sharing a common experience. It is problematic because it breaks the people into two different parts of the umma and then the purpose dissolves since it has never changed. This makes people think of the history of islam with the umma as just the sunni shi'a split

  2. Yes that is correct. The whole point of Islam is to stay together in unity and everyone believe one thing. So if the Umma is split and there are two separate sects believing two different things then that completely contradicts the whole point of Islam.
